Christopher Moore

This author will not be to everyone's taste. He is quirky and funny, sometimes profane and sacrilegious. One of his best known tales is Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal. If that is too much for you try one of his that is completely different: A vampire tale called Bloodsucking Fiends: A Love Story. As you might guess from the titles, Moore is a bit different. But if you are looking for laugh-out-loud funny and you really like something different, give him a try. He has a number of books available, none of which has ever been made into a movie.

This particular story is about Tucker Case, a disgraced pilot, an isolated South Pacific island, shark people, a talking fruit bat, atypical missionaries and a native religious cult that worships a WWII bomber pilot. It all makes since - kinda - in the end. Tucker Case shows up again in a later novel by Moore, The Stupidest Angel: A Heartwarming Tale of Christmas Terror. As I mentioned - not for everyone.
