Support Your Local Sheriff

This is a 1969 James Garner movie that I missed when it was first released and I never saw on TV before. I knew about it, how Garner basically plays his Maverick character and it spoofs Rio Bravo. This is an excellent little movie with a wonderful cast. Garner is joined by Walter Brennan, in one of his last film roles, Harry Morgan, Jack Elam, Joan Hackett and Bruce Dern. The setting is a very unlikely 'old west' and the main theme is a sheriff that uses his wits instead of his gun. Garner is a drifter who becomes sheriff only because he needs money to get him to Australia (because too many people are crowding in on the frontier) and no one else will take the job.

Recommended. A nice way to spend 90 minutes on a lazy summer afternoon.
